Taras Koltun: “I can’t thank my mother agent Tara Lanoway enough for being the coolest, most outgoing, and professional as she is”

21 ago, 2012

I was born in October of 1992 in a small town of 400,000 called Tomsk (Russia). Tomsk is one of the oldest towns in Siberia which is rougly 407 years old.

I lived there until the fifth grade and then moved to Toronto, Canada with my family. Here I developed many interestes in sports, such as volleyball, tennis and swimming.

The though of me becoming a “model” never in my LIFE crossed my mind. I never knew that existed, until that one day… I was hanging out in downtown Toronto, looking for shoes, being a “cool” kid that I though I was, wearing “Bang It!” shirt

I decided to stop by my mom’s friends office to say hi and possibly steal a ride home (I lived 40 minutes away from Toronto). As I went into her office building, I approached the elevator and for some reason pressed floor number 7, instead of 6. And boy was I lucky.

I stepped out of the elevator and wondered around the hallway for about 15 minutes knocking on every door trying to find my moms friend until a loevely young woman, about 27 years of age stepped out of the last door down the hallway asking me if I was looking for her. As lost as I was I replied “no, I don’t think so” to which she replied, “Oh, because you look like someone who will come and see me” . I was creeped out and decided to leave. As I went back into the elevator, that woman followed me inside and… that’s when it happened.

She offered me a modeling contract. Not knowing what I was getting myself into, I decided to sign it. It’s been a slow first year as I still was a little boy, but once I turned 16 I went to Europe for my first season and did quite good. Now I’m going on 20 and will be having my 8th season this upcomming winter, and I can’t thank my mother agent Tara Lanoway enough for being the coolest, most outgoing, and professional as she is. I wouldn’t even consider her as my booker, but more as friends who work together.

Working with photographers: tons of energy, posing naked and the funny backstages

I love working with photographers who have tons of energy and are quick. I think its important when the team you are working with on set is on the same page. Energy, passion for their job, and who simply enjoy it and have fun doing it is very important.

Being naked in front of a camera isn’t something that I would enjoy, but yes, I have done it. Not fully, but covered, yet it still makes me feel a little uncomftorable.

As of some fun backstage stories. I can’t remember any from the top of my head, but this one time at a show, changing into my second look, only having about a minute to spare, I couldn’t take off my pants, so the stylist had to rip the apart so I could quickly get changing into my second outfit. But in the end all went well :)

The catwalks´s experiences

I worked for a number of fashion designers such as Jil Sander (my first show ever), Prada, Armani, Canali, Pringle of Scotland, Gianfranco Ferre, Dries Van Noten, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Kenzo, Costume National, Burberry, John Galliano, DSquared, Moschino and much more. The most memorable experience would probably be Ermenegildo Zegna in Beijing. Fun times :)

Women still rule!

I think women are dominating this business, as the have been doing it for decades. Men don’t get as much exposure as women, but they do last much longer. I only wish they paid as much as girl get ;)

A fashionista?

I wear what ever fits. But I do enjoy a bit of classy/street look. I love to experiment, and wouldn’t mind going a little over board. (Only if i had a sense of style) You only live once right? So wear what ever makes you stand out and make people go, “I want that too!”

Imagine u a famous model surrounded by a  huge crowd!

I´m generaly a shy, down to earth person. I definetly wouldn’t have an ego boost or anything of that sort. I would just take a few pictures maybe, hug and cuddle with MY FANS and continue with my day. Without a doubt, it’s cool to get that sort of attention, but again if it doesn’t ever happen, I’m still happy :)

Show biz, fame, success… Any role model as an inspiration for your career?

I think the show business wants to attract an even younger crowd, by having younger performers, models, actors etc. The perfect example of that would be Justin Bieber. The kid is brilliant. As of models though, it’s a little different, only a handfull break through that barrier of 20+ campaigns a year, big money etc. But once again, I don’t have an idol who inspired me to pursue what I enjoy which is modeling and acting. I do it for my own enjoyment, hoping for the best.

Dating X Love

I am a flirty flirt, although I have a girlfriend so I lay low.

Sports

I can play many sports, but mostly tennis, swimming and volleyball.

Atracting someone´s attention

Compliment with two hand guns pointing in their director with a touch of wink, and a killer smile. (That only works in movies though)

My favorite body part? Lol haha, I’d say my ears

Fav underwear daily activities and for those coooool sexy moments (lol!)

My favorite underwear would be tight boxers, and sexy moments… who wears underwear for sexy moments?

 In his IPOD

As of music, I listen to anything that brings pleasure to my ears. If Justin Bieber was playing on the radio, I’d go along.

Fav food

Sushi and anything that my moms cooks

Guilty pleasure

Haha too many to list. Justin Bieber?

If you weren´t a model you´d be…

I always wanted to pursue acting, way before modeling. But in the real world l’d probably be studying something in Finance field. But again, modeling isn’t forever so I’m still going to be what I’d be if I wasn’t modeling.

The Projects

orgettable moment: My upcomming projects/goals is to learn guitar, and possibly relocate to New York. Thanks for your time, have a good one!
