Ludan Theron: “I really like it when the photographer has a sense of humour, and that he/she can interact well with the model”

17 jan, 2015

Hey World of Models! I’m Ludan Theron from Cape Town, South Africa. I’m 21 years old and I’m a student at the University of Cape Town (UCT). I’m very big on my fitness and try to do some outdoor activities such as tennis, golf and road running.

Modeling: how did all begin

Well, I never really decided to become a model… 2 years ago I was approached in a club in Cape Town by a scout, and that’s it really. It suited my student lifestyle and I was not upset about having to stop my job as a waiter!

My first test shoot was actually in my very own house! The photographer loved my Victorian, old-school furniture and it was a nice environment to start off in!

The best thing about modelling for me is that you get the opportunity to travel and see the world, and that you get to meet so many interesting, sometimes even odd, people!

Posing to photographers: sense of humour

I really like it when the photographer has a sense of humour, and that he/she can interact well with the model. It really helps when there’s a connection between the two! In terms of preparation, that really depends on what type of shoot… but if I’m going to be topless then I usually decrease my water intake and increase my cardio. I am comfortable doing underwear shoots, but not fully nude.

The runway shows

I think it’s an amazing opportunity and privilege to walk runway. You get to showcase clothing that the world has not yet seen.

The fashion industry: women still rule!

For sure,  female models still rule this business, but there is definitely growth for male models in the industry! Since I am very fitness conscience, I admire a good physique. I use Instagram as a source of my inspiration!

And when it comes to a fav model, I think fellow South Africans, such as Candice Swanepoel, have given us belief that we can make it big in the industry.

Ludan, a fashionista?

I am by no means a fashionista! I prefer comfort over style any day! I do put effort into my appearance, but I don’t dress up each and every day expecting to walk the red carpet!

Imagine u a famous model surrounded by a huge crowd!

I guess I would probably blush or try and be as friendly as possible! If the crowd gets too wild I think I may have to try slip away though!

The dumbest think you’ve ever heard a model say

I often overhear girls’ speaking about their diets, and it really shocks me what some of them do to stay in shape.

Dating X Loving

I’m currently in a relationship, and I am still unsure if I like being single. But for now I’m very happy being settled down! The only difficulty is when we travel to different parts of the world.

I used to play cricket, hockey and rugby when I was younger. Now I’m more of a “gym-guy” but I don’t use the gym to get bigger, I simply use it to stay fit and healthy which allows me to play golf, tennis and anything else!

Super powers and superheroes

My favourite superpower would probably be flight. I grew up watching Superman and the ability to fly fascinated me!

If you weren´t a model you´d be…

I’d be a full time student, and I would still be a waiter at a restaurant! Thank goodness that’s not the case!

Yourself in 10 years

In 10 years I would like to see myself working abroad in some business. I am currently studying a degree of Business Science, so I would like to put that to use some day!
