Felix Bujo ” I wanted to become a model to be able to travel the world and witness it’s beauty and it’s diverse cultures”

10 out, 2014

I officially began modeling in 2005. I was then 17 years old. It was the end of my last year of high school in Montreal and it all happened so fast that I barely had time to finish my last exam that I was already in a plane to Milan to get there in time for the castings for the fashion week. Meaning I had to miss my graduation ball! But hey, it’s just another big party isn’t it?

Before modeling I attended an all art oriented school until age 14. It’s called the Rudolf Steiner School. In it’s 800+ locations worldwide, they teach acting, singing, eurythmie (a mix of yoga and dance), instruments (compulsory flute and violin and I added clarinet), manual work with wood, clay and fabrics, and for sports, basic martial arts, classic roman Olympic sports (ex.: javelin, disc and weight throw) and I took optional baseball and football. Extra-murally, I enrolled in a Ice-Hockey team with Hall-of-Famer Mario Lemieux’s pre-professional coach, and later, in my school’s basket-ball team.

Travelling around the world, getting discovered and the first shootings

I wanted to become a model to be able to travel the world and witness it’s beauty and it’s diverse cultures. From a young age I had to get used to a lot of traveling because my father does business in at least 12 different countries, in specialized greenhouse construction.

Therefore at every occasion I would go visit him on the site where he was working on at the time of my vacation. After that I couldn’t imagine myself in the same city for too long and I think that experiencing the diversity of this world helps to develop business ideas and connexions.

It is my oldest sister Noémie that led me into modeling after I told her about getting scouted on a trip to Salt Lake City. She put her contacts together to produce a first photoshoot with Montreal photographer Colombe Boileau to be used to present to the city’s leading agencies.

It all worked out a little too well but after meeting with each of them I decided to go with Jean-François at Giovanni models. He ended up doing an amazing job for me until he separated himself from the agency to be the personal agent of supermodel Irina Lazareneau.

I don’t exactly know the identity of the very first person who discovered me. I know she is a woman from a Salt Lake City model agency and that it was in a shopping mall there, but I was 16 at the time, I didn’t know anything about the fashion industry and I was leaving the next day to Los Angeles, so I told her I would think about her offer… and I’m happy I did.

Posing to photographers: establishing a link with the team

I like when the photographer gives me confidence and encourages me I think the final product is much better for everyone if I can try anything I’m feeling. I’m guessing the preparation would be hair and make up? Haha. But it’s important to establish a link with the team before starting like that it’s not uncomfortable on set.

When you just get brought on set and the photographer doesn’t even introduce himself… It’s really weird taking orders from that person.

Shooting naked can happen depending on the context and feeling of the intentions of the team.

The runway shows

In the past 10 years I’ve been doing this? A lot! Haha. Most known worldwide I guess would be Louis Vuitton, Etro, Zegna, Lacoste, Canali, Dsquared, Hugo Boss, Kenneth Cole, Stone Island, Porsche Design…

FW14 BASTIAN NEW YORK 02/04/2014

When I walk down the runway I guess I’m not really dreaming, I have a more technical approach so that I give to art the photographers and viewers the best impression. So it’s more like: keep your head up. Eyes open. Ok 3,2,1 slow down, pose and turn and walk back. Head up. Eyes open, etc

Leading the business

Women supermodels definitely still lead the business.  There’s no top male model that are even close to being as known/paid as their female counterparts. I see slowly the rates are becoming closer to being similar when the jobs are smaller like e-comm but that’s about it.

I think David gandy looks like he has class, well grounded and would be a nice guy and I admire models that are all up in the face of clients and social media going to every event and doing the whole schmooze game… Unfortunately for me it’s against my nature but I respect someone that wants it that bad. Concerning fav model, Kate Moss because she really is timeless.

Felix, a fashionista?

I‘m slowly becoming more aware of fashion but I’m definitely not a fahionista. I like to be comfortable. At home I’ll wear sweats and tank tops. On the street I’ll wear jeans or cargo pants when I have to take a flight. The extra pockets come handy with all the extra things like mileage cards, passports, headphones, boarding pass, etc. always comfortable jeans. I like black leather sneakers.

Imagine u a famous model surrounded by a huge crowd!

Start running. Haha. I guess that’s what I would want to do but in fact I would stay if they want to take photos with me or whatever. If I can make someone happy I will
