Brian Putzy: “I try to go to the sauna before shoots to sweat out any impurity’s I have and to just relax before shooting”
13 jan, 2011
I grew up in a River Falls, Wisconsin. Naturally, being a Midwestern boy, I developed a passion for the outdoors. Pretty much my favorite thing to do is to sit around the campfire at my parents cabin and watch the sunsets. Wisconsin is truly a majestic place…even though people dont give us the credit we deserve
Gotten out of a long term relationship and a cool modeling career just waiting for him!
I had just gotten out of a long-term relationship and I found i had a lot more time on my hands. I was and still am addicted to working out and I wanted to get out and meet new people, so I thought why not get paid for it and see the world too? And I just cant stand still!
Initally I just sent photos out, and signed with a small agency. I modeled for about 6-8 months and then called it quits. I hated everything about at first. Some time went by, and another agency had seen my pictures and wanted to meet me. I was walking through Tribeca shopping one day, and two of the agents from that agency were actually having lunch. They stopped eating, walked out and asked me to stop by the agency with them. The rest is history.
The best thing about modeling so far is just the people you meet. Its truly an honor to be surrounded by so many talented and unique people. Some of the most important people in my life I’ve met through modeling. And even if it all ended tomorrow, I’d still be thankful for that and that alone.
The Louis Vuiton´s casting and working with photographer Tony Duran!
I remember one of my first castings ever. It was a request for the Louis Vuitton runway show in Paris. I didnt have a book, i wasnt quite in “model shape” yet, and I walked in there and stood in a line with some of the biggest models in the industry. All I could think is what have I gotten myself into?! Needless to say, I was right. After walking in, the casting directors looked at me like what are you doing here and i looked back at them thinking the exact same thing haha
One of my real first test shoots was actually with Tony Duran at his home in LA. I flew out from NYC and spent a couple days in his guestroom and we just lived life and when he saw something he liked, he whipped out his camera and we started shooting. This was the shoot that took away any doubt I had about being a model. It was random-something new, unexpected and exciting. It was the complete opposite of my life at business school. That´s when I decided I was gonna pass on the whole investment banking thing (good timing right?) and pursue modeling. But I remain in school as wrinkles inevitably will set in someday!
Going to the sauna before every shooting
What do I like most about working with a photographer? I would say the constant dance that ensues at photo shoots as two people are trying to understand and communicate with eachother in order to create beautiful images. Its an amazing feeling when I connect with a photographer and we both look at the images after with just a shear look of satisfaction.
I try to go to the sauna before shoots to sweat out any impurity’s I have and to just relax before shooting. It´s stressful to have a camera pointed at you. In a mirror, only you see your imperfections, but through the lens of a camera, the world sees them. No one´s perfect.
A small skimpy pair of underwear!
That´s the thing about modeling. You can´t hide anything. It makes you push yourself to be better everyday. Because reality is everyone has their insecurities. Models maybe even more so. One time I had to put on a really and I mean really small skimpy pair of underwear, if you could even call them that and it just so happened that although aesthetically pleasing, they’re functionality was lacking a bit. Part way through the shoot, they didnt contain what they had been ‘intended’ to contain. Thats what I love about this industry so much though. People aren´t so uptight. We adjusted as necessary and kept shooting.
At one show, I had multiple looks and had to change into in a short period of time, the last of which was underwear yet again (type cast haha) and in the choas backstage, I had forgotten that at the right angle, a few people could see backstage. I found myself butt naked staring at an elderly women. At first I felt kinda bad, but the expression on her face was priceless. If your reading this, sorry for flashing you.
The last year was my first real fashion week in NYC. I had the pleasure of working for GANT by Michael Bastian and Victor Glemaud. Both of which are amazing designers and just amazing people to work with. I also had the privelage of walking for Saks Fifth Ave and the GMHC. It was a cool experience, because I got to work with a lot of great designers, stylists, etc, all in one show. Until now, because of school, I couldn´t travel abroad to other cities fashion weeks because my midterm/finals schedule always conflicted. My dad supports my fashion career, but he made me promise that I’d finish school before I let myself get carried away and that´s a promise I couldnt break.
Haha. growing up I sucked. I’ll be the first to admit it. I wore ‘wind pants’ every day in elementary school and refused to wear blue jeans until I was in middle school. I hated them! Now it´s all I wear. My approach to fashion is simplicity. I feel form and function go hand and hand. On a day to day basis, I wear a pair of jeans, a v-neck (with a zippie, cardigan or sweater in the winter), a pair of Calvin’s under my denim, and Vans. To me fashion more about the person than the clothes. As long as you are confident in your look and exude that, that´s all that matters.
Imagine u a famous model surrounded by a huge crowd!
I’d embrace it and say thank you as i graciously ducked out. I don´t like crowds.
Human rights, Freedom of speech, Wars, Sexual behavior…
To be honest, I don´t understand why people fight. To truly answer this question, I’d have to write a essay, but in short. People are different. I try to look at situations not from only my perspective, but also from the perspective of others-where are they coming from? What has happened in their past to shape the choices they make in the present. To me, that´s maturity. To each his own. Be who you are and be proud of it. And don´t hate other people because they’re different. Why hate? Be who you are and let others be who they are. You don´t have to love everyone, and if someone doesnt like me I´m not offended. I’d rather spend my time and effort nurturing meaningful and important relationships than dealing with unhealthy ones.
Show biz, Fame, Success and 5 most important things for his life
To me fame is merely a #. The number of people who know your name or can recognize your face. Really not important. Success for me is living life without regret. Very important.
# 1. Being a father (someday..these are not in chronological order!)
# 2. Variety. Repetition is boring
# 3. No regret. Every decision I make is because it´s the decision I wanted to make
# 4. To always be better than I was the day before. Life´s too short to waste
# 5. To see and experience as much of the world as possible. Why? Open up a National Geographic and imagine that live!!
Dating X Love: love found me when I least expected it and left me when I least expected it; love has shaped the person I am today
Sports: Bikram Yoga (It´s a sport where you face your toughest competition..yourself). Sailing. Tennis. But I’ll play anything really.I like variety and exercise is exercise.
Atracting someone´s attention: I’m just who I am. If you like it, cool.If not, that´s fine too. Attraction just happens. You can´t force it.
Having fun: I have fun by experiencing new things. The world is a vast and amazing place with so much to offer.
The craziest thing he´s ever done in a summer time season: crazy is such a relative term.
Fav body part and why: eyes. It´s the most intimate, seductive and honest body part. When people ask me how I approach women, I tell them, “I stare into their eyes and tell them they’re beautiful without saying a word” sounds lame, but in practice…
Fav undies for his daily activities and for those coooool sexy moments (lol!): Calvins. Is that a choice?
Fav singer and which music he listens in his IPOD: RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS! But I’ve been jamming to ‘Rude Boy’ by Rihanna in the gym a lot. It puts me in the state of mind to model.
Fav food: Sweet Potatoes and Dried Figs! And the occasional tootsie roll if I can find the 4″ ones.I´m telling you they taste different and definitely better than any other size.
An unforgettable moment: my first catwalk.I will never forget it. It changes you haha
GEIL Magazine with the incredibly talented Tony Duran. Other than that, you’ll have to keep an eye out I can´t give everything away.
When you´ll come to my world?
When life takes me there. I try to live in the moment!
Motto: every day’s a school a day
