Angel Garet: from depression and stress to a full body transformation

24 out, 2013

Hello everyone, I was born and raised in Venezuela but my mom is Peruvian and my dad is Uruguayan so I have a lot of background.

I was 16 years old when I came to United States, I went to High school and was a student in college at Charlotte, NC the place I now call HOME or hometown since all my friends and family live there.

I played soccer throughout high school and college, which led to a scholarship at a 2 year college in a small town in Georgia (South Georgia College in Douglas, GA)

I love soccer,it’s my passion and I couldn’t go too far as a professional player because of a knee injury. Besides soccer, I love working out, hiking, playing any competitive sport, going to the movies and going to the beach.

Modeling: from depression and stress to a full body transformation

Long story short, I was depressed my soccer career was over and I was recently dumped by my girlfriend at the time for another man. That made me move back to my hometown in Charlotte NC where I had my family and friends.

It was at the gym where I took all my depression and stress and turned it in to muscle and a full body transformation that led to bumping into Tiffani Lewis, founder of Satan Can’t Stand Me who approached me and convinced me to do a small photo shoot with her clothing line.

It was the first time I ever modeled and got in front of a camera. I remembered I was uncomfortable and nervous but Tiffani kept speaking to me by saying I was natural, I was doing a great job and that I should get into modeling and make it a career.

Her words got in my head and each day I kept getting more interested in the idea of becoming a professional model. November 2010, it was then when I decided to make a change and pursue modeling. So luckily I bumped in to a friend of a friend (Mary Rogers) who happened to be a model with representation in the Carolinas.

She helped me getting representation through her agent, she gave me advice and took her time to show me her experiences and knowledge about all aspects of the industry. She is now my girlfriend, roommate and best friend that I am so thankful for.

Looking back at my first test shoot It can say a lot about my progress comparing it to my up to date images and jobs. Now I’ve been doing a lot of commercial print jobs such as: catalogs, campaigns, websites, music videos, commercials etc. I love modeling equally to acting because the feeling of being in front of a camera can’t be described and it is a great feeling to be working so hard at something that I have such a big heart for.

I am proud of myself for working so hard to have the opportunity to work for many clients and meeting hard working intelligent people as well.

Posing to photographers: working together to have fun

I love working with a photographer that knows what image/film they want to capture and is professional right away. When myself and the photographer can work well together it makes the shoot so much fun and simple. My only preparation depending on the type of shoot, is preparing my body one or two days before to tighten my abs and drain my body water for a fitness or body photo shoot.

I have never shot naked nor will ever shoot naked because I am pursuing acting as well and it could ruin some chances with some major networks. I always am very professional with my career. I have a lot of respect for my managers and agencies and what they expect from me. I have shot plenty of professional underwear shoots so I guess I’m comfortable doing underwear and swimwear.

Only funny story I have is: I was scheduled to shoot this fashion video and they wanted me to come ready to shoot with black dress pants. The day of the shoot I happened to run out of clean clothes so obviously I ran out of clean underwear and decided to go commando. I took all the dirty clothes basket with me to do laundry later at a coin laundry place. When I got to the set they put us all in a waiting room with girls and guys all ready for the shoot.

But then wardrobe came and told all the guys there has been a change and we need you to change pants and put the blue jeans we were given. So obviously there wasn’t a bathroom to change, no where to go and every guy was changing right there but me because I had no underwear and didn’t  want  to be awkward and show my business. So I had to excuse myself and ran to my car put the blue jeans on. Everyone probably thought I was ridiculous. In the end the shoot turned out to be great.

The runway shows

I have done many runway shows from high fashion to crazy fashion shows. One of the weirdest and funnies backstage stories is a show I did where The designer had me tape my private parts area with duck tape and wear women’s see through panty-hose. Then I had my chest and abs painted and it was just a crazy show lol.

I have walked for Guess Jeans, Luis Machicado, Brooks Brothers and many other high end fashion designers.

When I walk the runway, all I can think of is how grateful i am to be part of the show and how everyone’s hard work is put in to making a great show.  I always focus on not tripping (haha) like everyone thinks, and to make the designers proud of their work.

Male models x Female models

Nowadays the exposure for male models keeps growing and the competition gets harder and harder whether it’s women or men. I always am myself and bring the best of me at any given opportunity no matter what it is.

The market for black models, Hispanics I believe is growing tremendously in United States. We all work hard individually for what we are perusing.

The dumbest thing you’ve ever heard a model say

The dumbest was “that some fit and skinny models stay fit by throwing up or starving “when in reality hard working models do eat and exercise a lot following a strict diet and staying healthy.

Angel´s style: a fashionista?

I consider myself a fashionista. I love dressing to impress off or on set because I feel good when I look good and if I feel good ill do good and if I do good they will pay good!! I love wearing Armani and express!l Like i said I love soccer so I am often running around in sweats and sneakers.

Imagine u a famous model surrounded by a huge crowd

It is the greatest feeling when someone you never met recognizes you and shows support. If this happens in a major crowd I would handle it with professionalism and try to please everyone by either signing autographs and/or taking pictures with them. They are my fans and support and that would be something they would expect from me. I am very thankful.

Show business, Fame. Success and the inspring models

I think show business is another way of advertising ourselves to the public and all of us models are the CEOs of our own company (ourselves) advertising our product to please our customers.

Adriana Lima is one top model I would love to shoot with and the one female model I look up to. She has accomplished many things in her career and has moved around the world, as I can relate too. Baptiste Giabiconi is one top male model I look up to.

Dating x Loving

I’m really romantic, sensitive, expressive, fun and passionate.

Sports

I’m extremely athletic, I played soccer throughout high school and college, so soccer has always been my passion. I also play any sport out there. I consider myself a natural athlete.

If you could have a super power what would it be?

I would love to be able to fly and take myself off to see the world because my long term goal is too travel around the world.

Who’s your favorite superhero?

Batman. Because through all his hard work, training and ability to fight against crime without a supernatural power other than his human strength, brain and tools he legitimately could exist in real live! And his badass outfit of course.

Atracting someone´s attention

Speaking because I do have a very strong Latin accent and speak 3 different languages.

Having fun, enjoying life

I have fun being surrounded by friends and family! I can literally have a great time anywhere as long as I am around loving and fun people. People who have great energy and that I connect to in every way. I have learned to not be around negative energy and people who bring you down. Because the ones who care will support you until the end. Paying it forward is what I believe in.

Craziest (nastiest?) thing  in a summer time season

I took a trip back to my country to visit family and when I visited my sister and her husband in Margarita Island, they took me on a tourist trip to a tiny island where they had this mud and every tourist including me bathed ourselves in it and put it all over our faces and let it dry.

I don’t know if the mud was sanitary but people traveled the world to do it even though it was gross. We all looked hilarious once the mud dried on our bodies.

Fav body part and why

I don’t have a specific favorite body part, but I do enjoy being healthy and staying fit. My body being healthy is very important to me.

In his Iphone

Enrique Iglesias is one of my favorite singers. And I love listening to club house dance music. I love Latin music because I was raised dancing in Venezuela.

Fav food

Peruvian Food my mom cooks the best.

Guilty pleasure

Frozen yogurt

If you weren´t a model you´d be…

An US Marshall. I got my associates in criminal justice and that was the career I was pursuing before becoming a model

An unforgettable moment

when I left my hometown Charlotte,NC I threw a good bye party and I never expected it to be a huge event and it was an unforgettable moment having so many people coming to support me, wish me good luck in Los Angeles and say goodbye.

The Projects

I’m still working on plenty of modeling jobs such commercial print but I’m focusing on acting-taking accent reduction classes, acting classes and going to plenty of auditions to become successful. I take my career very seriously.

Motto

“The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place. And I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you

there if you let it. You me or nobody is going to hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you can hit, it’s about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward.” ~ Rocky Balboa

And when will you come to my world?

I would love to travel back to South America for either a project or vacation. As well as to sign with an agency or manager to represent me internationally.
